Players that understand the differences between a stock swing and the finesse wedge are usually better equipped to troubleshoot their game from tee-to-green.
For golfers that do not fall into this category, I will often suggest this fun learning exercise. To start, I will ask students to demonstrate their "first guess" of how the release should look for the finesse wedge, while seated. To their surprise, the correct (and 3D-verified) movements can be drastically different from their rehearsal.
Ultimately, this exercise is a great starting point for introducing several release-related concepts such as supination, the unhinge pattern, and bracing versus coasting. In the end, working through these items should provide several "lightbulb" moments and hopefully, the opportunity to clean up a few technical inefficiencies.
